Former Senate Member of the Netherlands, Professor Emeritus in Sustainable Development and Food Security at Wageningen University. Chaired the IFDC board (2021-2023), led agricultural programs in developing countries, and served on the boards of four CGIAR centers. Co-chaired the Inter-Academy Panel on Food Security in Africa. Holds degrees in phytopathology, entomology, ecology, and philosophy of science, and a doctorate in agricultural and environmental sciences.
